Each organization is created by people to carry out activities that through their results will make it possible to meet the diversity of individual expectations of its members.
From here the following roles of the people in the organization can be defined.
- they are the creators of the organization
- they define the goals, the ways for their achievement (strategies)
- take the decisions necessary for organizing their implementation.
With the changes in the economic and social environments at the end of the 20th century, the concept of staff changed significantly.
Until recently, the success of an organization was almost unequivocally associated with the ability to commit sufficient capital and ensure its effective use by choosing the right goals and strategies and by providing good equipment, technology, and qualified staff. This is still valid now, but it is especially important for an organization not just to provide competent people, but above all to motivate them so that they do what they are capable of.
What does success require?
Success today requires knowledge, skills, creativity, ability to change, energy, and exceptional effort, and the source of all this is one – the members of the organization. People are finding it increasingly difficult to manage “by force”.
With a new level of education, a new self-confidence, and new values, they demand the respect they deserve as individuals. In other words, both economic and social trends at the beginning of the new century made the leaders of the organizations realize the need for a change in the attitude towards people and the following principles underlie this new attitude.
There are no important and unimportant people. Regardless of the specific activity, it performs, anyone can contribute to the success or failure of the organization if they so wish.
People have always mattered, but now they are the most important factor in winning the competition. Not individual people, but all – their ideas, energy, abilities, and most importantly, their desire to do the impossible for the success of the organization. If the organization is very sensitive to the motivation and loyalty of people, the only way to achieve them in modern conditions is to put the person in the center of attention and treat him with respect.
Management literature about leadership and staff motivation
Management literature contains many theories about leadership and staff motivation. It can be said that they help to understand why some leaders are better than others. People are the most important resource in any organization, regardless of its size and subject of activity. The staff is the face of the organization and the success of the whole organization depends on how motivated people are to work, develop and give their best.
One of the main tasks of modern human resource management is to create a working environment that helps to achieve the goals. Motivation in this direction is essential. Read more: “Human Resources Management Plan Example”, https://w-europe.org/human-resources-management-plan-example/
It is most often defined as a set of mental processes related to the strength and direction of behavior, with the provocation, direction, and maintenance of purposeful actions. Motivation is determined by three groups of factors:
- What encourages human behavior
- What guides him
- How this behavior can be maintained
